Description: The BBC offers several free online courses in world languages. German Steps is a beginner-level course available to those wanting to learn the German language.

The course consists of six stages or “steps,” and features a vocabulary list, syllabus, fact files, and other tools to immerse the student in the language.

Students can sign up for the German Steps course with a 12-week email program offering tips and a completion certificate at the end.

The six steps of the German Steps program are as follows:

Meeting People
Sightseeing
Food and Drink
Taking a Holiday
Arrangements
Shops and Services
