Description: While this course isn’t hosted directly by UCLA it’s creator, Steven Barnes, taught the 9-week class there for several years. This free online version is based on that UCLA class. Barnes is a bestselling author and screen writer.

The course is a rather thorough introduction for any writers wanting to try their hand at screenwriting. The 9 weekly lessons can be taken at your own pace (they’re all accessible from the course link above, and you don’t have to wait for a new lesson each week as you would with a weekly email course).

The class offers a lecture-like approach, as well as homework assignments, with topics ranging from character development and creativity to overcoming writer’s block and pitching your screenplay for the sale.
